Incense for slow evenings

Quiet smoke for a slower breath.

Agarwood, sandalwood and mugwort incense powders from the forests of South East Asia, for meditation, ritual and calm rooms.

The collection

Three powders, burned on charcoal.

Fine incense powders for a small burner. Light a charcoal disc, add a pinch, and sit with the smoke.

A starter ritual set (the three powders, a small burner and charcoal) is being put together. Write to us to hear when it is ready.

A simple ritual

Ten quiet minutes.

Incense has been part of meditation across Asia for centuries. The practice is small: a flame, a little smoke, and your attention.

  1. Light the charcoal

Light a charcoal disc and wait until it turns grey at the edges.

  2. Set it down

Place it on a bed of ash in a heat-safe burner.

  3. Add a pinch

Put a small pinch of powder on the charcoal, or on a mica plate above it.

  4. Sit and breathe

Let the smoke settle. Snuff the charcoal when you are done.

Burn in a ventilated room. Keep charcoal and burner away from children, pets and anything flammable, and never leave them unattended.

The app, coming

A small companion for the ritual.

We are building an app to sit beside the incense: a place to time your practice, keep a quiet routine and see the day through the Chinese calendar. It is not released yet.

  • Meditation timer

A quiet timer with a soft bell, for sitting practice.

  • Incense timer

Time a burn from lighting to snuffing, and note what you burned.

  • Almanac

The Chinese calendar day by day, as a guide to a good day for ritual.

Origin and orders

From the forests of South East Asia.

We bring aromatic woods and herbs from South East Asia, and write down what we know about each one in the journal. Provenance notes for every powder are being added as we confirm them with our suppliers.
